Drug and alcohol abuse among employees results in higher accident rates, increased absenteeism, lowered productivity and increased conflict/interpersonal violence. Drug testing is a viable tool but recent OSHA statements indicate a narrowing of options. “For Cause” testing (with adequate training) is the effective and defensible approach for employers.

Mr. Prince is a recognized expert in the articulation and application of “reasonable cause” for workplace drug testing. He has trained over 15,000 supervisors and managers in a wide range of industries to identify and confront the suspected substance abusing employee. Today, a typical workplace of 1,000 employees has a rate of alcoholism and excessive drinking between 10% and 20%, and a rate of illicit drug use anywhere from 2% to 7%. ~National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)

Mr. Prince has consulted on numerous cases in a variety of industries. He specializes in cases where employees are represented by unions or government contracts. He has provided training and consultation to companies whose employees have been members of the ILWU, IBEW, Teamsters, AFSCME, IUOE and SEIU. As well, his clients include City, State and Federal agencies.

Mr. Prince is an adjunct professor of psychology at Los Angeles City College where he has instructed in the Drug and Alcohol Studies Program since 1988. He served as a reserve officer with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Unit from 1986 through 2011. He was an instructor with the DRE program and also instructed with the Department’s Narcotics School, 11550 Class and other specialized trainings.
