Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Training Instructor

Mr. Prince is federally certified as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Instructor. He also instructs with LAPD’s Narcotics School and other specialized trainings. He is a recognized expert in the articulation and application of “reasonable cause” for workplace drug testing and he has trained over 10,000 supervisors in a variety of industries to identify and confront the suspected substance-abusing employee. Over 12,000 employees have attended his drug awareness presentations. Mr. Prince is currently under contract for or has worked with several city and State of California agencies for other program development, training, and consultation. He has been on the faculty of Los Angeles City College for 20 years where he is an instructor in the Drug and Alcohol Studies program. Pat was also a certified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) and provided SAP services for many years.

Corporate DRE Trainings

Drug and alcohol abuse among employees results in higher accident rates, increased absenteeism, lowered productivity and increased conflict/interpersonal violence. Drug testing is a viable tool but recent OSHA statements indicate a narrowing of options. Reasonable Suspicion Assessments and “For Cause” testing (with adequate training) is the effective and defensible approach for employers.

In addition to instructing law enforcement personnel and developing DRE policy, Pat conducts corporate Drug Recognition Expert trainings for organizations’ key security and safety staff as well as supervisory personnel. Patrick also trains more than 50 school districts on an annual basis who were initially mandated to provide training for only their transportation employees.

Drug and Alcohol Counselor Studies Professor

An adjunct professor in Los Angeles Community College’s Drug and Alcohol Counselor Certificate program since 1989, Patrick combines a broad range of singularly unique insights from law enforcement, multinational corporate, and academic perspectives into his DRE trainings to maximize impact and immediate value.
